The news of thinking as it happens.
Philosophers News is an independent digital news platform that follows what is happening in contemporary philosophy.
We do not believe philosophy is a subject discussed only in academic circles, universities and specialist journals. Philosophical thinking bears directly on politics, law, science, technology, artificial intelligence, culture, art, society and everyday life. That is why we treat philosophy as a live news beat.
We follow the talks, statements and new work of contemporary philosophers, along with newly published books, major conferences, prizes and developments across the discipline, and we report them for a general English-language readership. Our aim is to help the philosophical thinking produced around the world reach readers faster, more clearly and more reliably.
Philosophers News is not an academic journal. It does not aim to replace scholarly work, but to carry the ideas produced in academic and intellectual life to a wider readership through news reports, interviews, book coverage and daily briefing.
Our coverage is organised around a few questions:
Our core principles are source transparency, accuracy, context, editorial independence, correctability and pluralism.
The sources behind a story are stated as openly as possible. It matters to us that a reader can see where a piece of information came from and, if they wish, go to the source themselves.
We take particular care that views and statements attributed to philosophers, academics and thinkers rest on reliable sources. Attributing to someone a thought they did not express, or lifting a statement out of its context, is incompatible with the basic principles of philosophy journalism.
Philosophical ideas are usually too large to survive being reduced to a single sentence. Statements, quotations and disputes are therefore reported, as far as possible, within the context in which they arose.
Our editorial policy is not directed by any political party, ideological group, commercial organisation or academic circle. We work to keep an equal distance from different intellectual traditions, positions and philosophical approaches.
Where a material error is found in published content, we correct it. Significant corrections are marked clearly, where readers will see them.
Philosophy is not a single correct system of thought. Making room for different philosophical traditions, approaches and opposing views is a basic part of how we work.
Our focus falls above all on living philosophers who shape thinking today. A new book, a substantial interview, a conference appearance, a statement on a current political or social question, or a new piece of scholarly work can all carry news value for us.
We also watch the places where philosophy meets other disciplines: artificial intelligence and ethics, philosophy of technology, philosophy of law, political philosophy, philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, environmental philosophy, aesthetics and the philosophy of culture.

These questions are not on the agenda of philosophers alone; they belong to everyone. Philosophers News sets out to make the intellectual debate that forms around them visible.
