Harari's graphic Sapiens series continues in November with a fourth volume

The fourth volume of the Israeli historian Yuval Noah Harari's Sapiens: A Graphic History — The Age of Revolutions — is published in November 2026.

The series translates Harari's 2011 book Sapiens into the language of comics. Produced with David Vandermeulen and Daniel Casanave, the volumes combine historical narrative with humour and invented scenes.

How Enemies Become Friends, the third book in Harari's children's series Unstoppable Us, appeared on 3 February 2026.

Is Harari a philosopher?#

Harari is academically a historian and teaches at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. But the questions his books ask touch classical philosophical headings: what distinguishes the human from other species? How do "fictional orders" such as institutions, money and the state acquire reality? What remains of autonomy once technology takes over our decision-making?

Nexus (2024) continued that line by way of information networks: as information multiplies, Harari argues, truth does not spread of its own accord; what matters is which networks reinforce which fictions.

Criticisms#

Academic criticism of Harari generally gathers under two headings: the weak sourcing of broad generalisations, and the compression of findings from different fields into a single narrative. That argument is part of a more general one about the limits of popular history.
