Emma Goldman

Anarchist writer and agitator — Anarchism and Other Essays and Living My Life

Mother Earth magazine (founder and editor) · United States (born Russian Empire) · d. 27 June 1869 (Kaunas, Russian Empire) — 14 May 1940 (Toronto, Canada)

An anarchist agitator and writer who carried her politics across America, lecturing on free speech, birth control, atheism and women's independence. Anarchism and Other Essays (1910) argued that real freedom demands abolishing both state power and economic coercion. Jailed repeatedly, she was deported to Russia in 1919 under the Anarchist Exclusion Act, quickly soured on Bolshevik rule, and spent her last years stateless, recording her life in Living My Life (1931).
